The language requirements depend on the degree programme that you’re interested in:
- Exchange students should have a basic command of German as well as a sound knowledge of English, enough to participate successfully in lectures and to communicate in the laboratories. The proficiency level required for both languages is identified in the respective agreements (usually B1).
- International programmes taught in English require a high language proficiency (see the respective prerequisites).
- For admission to a regular bachelor's or master's degree programme, either a German school-leaving certificate or the official proof of language proficiency is required by law (see FAQ).
- Special requirements apply for some international programmes, i.e. that applicants either need no previous knowledge of German or B1 level before enrolling. In such cases, the DSH is obligatory to be granted the degree, e.g. students have to pass the language exam before finishing their studies.
