Practice-oriented degree

Practice-oriented teaching

What makes a study degree at a university of applied sciences so unique is their practice-oriented approach to teaching.

A hands-on education offers students practical, real-world experience that traditional classroom learning may not always provide. One of the primary advantages is that it bridges the gap between theoretical knowledge and practical application. Students gain a deeper understanding of their field by directly engaging with the tools, technologies, and challenges they will face in their careers.

Another key benefit is the development of problem-solving skills. By working on real projects or in simulated environments, students learn to think critically and adapt to changing situations. This experience boosts confidence and prepares them for the complexities of their future jobs.

Hands-on learning also enhances employability. Employers often seek candidates who have experience and can demonstrate their ability to apply theoretical concepts in a practical setting. This type of education makes graduates more attractive in the job market, as they are often already familiar with industry practices.

Internship semester (industry placement)

All bachelor degrees at Technische Hochschule Mannheim contain an internship semester, where students get the possibility to broaden and deepen their knowledge and skills. Furthermore, they will be able to experience working conditions and methods in real life.

There are several resources at the university that will help students to find an internship:

Internship coordinators at the departments

Each department has an internship coordinator (Praktikumsbeauftragte), who will help students at this department to get in contact with partner companies.

Career Center

The university's Career Center can accompany you through the requirements of your studies through to your professional life and respond to each individual's questions, whether career planning, jitters before the job interview or groundbreaking start-up ideas.

Career events

The university's career events will provide ample opportunities to get in touch with employers and companies in the region.

Innovation and start-ups

MARS

The Center for Entrepreneurship (MARS), which has existed since 2020, offers a wide range of advice, qualifications, project support, rooms for experimentation and financial support for those interested in starting a business. It supports students and all other university members in implementing their projects for innovative ideas with a start-up perspective.

The offer is also seen as a bridge to the regional startup ecosystem. Those interested in starting a business benefit from networking with the existing support structures in the region. The aim is for promising startups to develop from the numerous innovative ideas at the university.
