What's it about?

“Information Technology”?

...this term refers to all the hardware and software components and processes for transferring data from A to B: Mobile communications, WLAN, Gigabit-Ethernet, digital radio and television, GPS etc. That’s very modern, isn't it?

“Electronics”?

...perhaps you picture it as a kind of outdated assembling of parts, while in fact well-known companies in Germany develop and manufacture electronic equipment professionally e.g. in industrial automation, the automotive industry and in biomedical engineering. Before any kind of digital signal can be sent, it has to be generated, amplified and digitalised. There is only a small number of engineers who can do that well, and they are thus in high demand.

Professions

Graduates of the Telecommunications/Electronics degree programme are employed in all places where electronic devices and facilities are developed, produced and sold, for example, in developing:

• sensors for measurement data acquisition, e.g. in manufacturing automation and quality control,

• compact systems for engine management, driving stability control and on-board infotainment in automotive engineering,

• new broadband technologies and radio systems for applications in telecommunication and automation engineering,

• integrated circuits for diverse applications such as computers, media appliances, measuring devices and communication engineering.

Course objectives

Based on natural science and electrical engineering fundamentals and modern programming, the goal of the degree course is to enable you to develop analogue and digital electronic circuits for sensor electronics, automotive engineering, communication transmission and biomedical engineering.

The focus here is on gaining information through measurement engineering and sensor electronics, in addition to analogue and digital signal processing through electronic circuits. These can range from individual transistors up until application-specific highly-integrated chips (ASICs) and processors and frequently require programming closely related to hardware. A further focus is on developing high frequency components and processes, from RFID to satellite radio.
