Baden-Württemberg-STIPENDIUM

The world belongs to the brave: international experience, language skills and an understanding of other cultures are more important than ever for school, university and work.

Baden-Württemberg-STIPENDIUM for students therefore enables qualified young people to think outside the box. Every year, the Baden-Württemberg Foundation offers around 1,400 scholarship holders from all over the world the opportunity to study in Baden-Württemberg with the Baden-Württemberg-STIPENDIUM.

The students become part of a lively, global network, in which people from a wide variety of disciplines and cultures can come into contact with one another.

Students from one of our international partner universities in the non-Erasmus area with a valid student exchange agreement who are nominated for a semester abroad at Hochschule Mannheim can apply for the scholarship.

The only exceptions from the Erasmus region: Stockholm University and Jönköping University (however, simultaneous receipt of Erasmus+ funding and Baden-Württemberg-STIPENDIUM is not possible).

Applicants have to have good to very good grades and be able to show social or intercultural competence.

The funding period is usually 3 to 5 months, the grants are at least 700 euros per month.

If students receive other scholarships that serve to support their stay abroad, it is not possible to receive a Baden-Württemberg-STIPENDIUM for the same period. It does not matter whether the scholarship provider is public or private. Simultaneous receipt of Erasmus+ funding and Baden-Württemberg-STIPENDIUM is excluded, for example.

Scholarships that do not specifically serve this purpose or represent supplementary services (e.g. travel allowance, free place in a hall of residence) do not compete with the Baden-Württemberg-STIPENDIUM.

Please note that you must also state the funding from a Baden-Württemberg-STIPENDIUM to other scholarship providers.

The application deadline is once a year: always in March for the upcoming winter and summer semester.

It is an online application: Please register first on the portal of the Baden-Württemberg Foundation: www.bws-world.de

After receiving the confirmation of registration, enter your personal data and the required study data correctly (please research your planned period of stay correctly and make sure to list Hochschule Mannheim - University of Applied Sciences as your destination) and upload the required documents.

Please note: After registration you have a maximum of 8 weeks to submit your application documents. Do not submit your application until it is complete. Subsequent editing and uploading is no longer possible for you after submitting the application.

The help comments in the portal answer questions that may arise as you edit.

Please upload the following application documents to the BWS portal:

  • Letter of motivation with information on the course of your studies so far, the aim and purpose of your semester abroad and information on your social and intercultural skills
  • CV
  • Official academic transcript
  • Certification of matriculation or interim certificate issued by home university (certified)

Incomplete applications and applications not submitted by the deadline will not be considered.

Applications posted on the Baden-Württemberg Foundation portal will be reviewed by a selection committee from Mannheim University of Applied Sciences.

The selection criteria are academic performance as well as the social and intercultural skills of the applicants and the motivation behind the planned stay abroad at Hochschule Mannheim.

After the recommendation has been made by the selection committee of Mannheim University of Applied Sciences, the applicants selected by the university will be recommended to the central scholarship committee of the Baden-Württemberg Foundation for a scholarship.

The selection process is usually completed by the end of June. The accepted applicants will receive the scholarship confirmation directly via the portal of the Baden-Württemberg Foundation.

There is no legal entitlement to a grant. The legal process is excluded.

At the end of the funding period, an experience report on the study visit must be prepared for the BWS-World portal within four weeks of returning home.

Please contact bwstip.io@hs-mannheim.de if you have any questions regarding the scholarship.
